Introduction: the social role of the methodological work in the Higher Educational institutions is to design a strategy that permits to raise the quality of the teaching and educational process, based on Didactics as a branch of Pedagogy. Objective: to develop a strategy for the methodological work in the cycle of General English in the Medical University of Pinar del Río. Methods: the philosophical position of materialist-dialectic was assumed in this research, some theoretical procedures were used such as: historical-logical, analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction, modeling; from the empirical level were used the document review, interview and class observations. It permitted to design a methodological strategy based on Progressive Education and Professional Pedagogy. Results: the difficulties were related to the planning of General English cycle methodological work in the Medical University of Pinar del Río that limits the quality of the teaching and educational process; as a result, a methodological strategy was developed to solve the identified deficiencies. Conclusions: the results revealed deficiencies in the development of the methodological work in its both directions; technological, with difficulties in its didactic components and administrative, with deficiencies in the development of its functions.
