Decoupling Method Based on Complementary Split Ring Resonator (CSRR) for Two Cone Shipborne Antennas

Shipborne antenna is the important part in the communication system of modern ships. However, the coupling between shipborne antennas greatly influences their communication performance so an effective decoupling method is needed to address the coupling problem and guarantee communication quality. In this paper, a metamaterial screen consisting of complementary split ring resonators (CSRRs) which are arranged periodically on the both sides of a substrate, is placed between two cone shipborne antennas to reduce their mutual coupling. The decrease of coupling is verified by a fabricated prototype. The measure results show considerable decoupling effect that the isolation at 0.1 GHz and 0.22 GHz can be increased by 24dB and the isolation in the whole operation band of the cone shipborne antenna, i.e. 0.1-0.5 GHz, is more than 20dB. Moreover, the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) in 0.1-0.25 GHz band, which is the band with the strongest coupling, is below 0.15. The simulated and measured results indicate that this metamaterial screen can be applied to enhance the isolation between two shipborne antennas.
