Bioethical issues associated with energy policy in Latin America
Abstract
This article relates the bioethical aspects of protection, justice as fairness, and the principle of responsibility to strategic issues of energy policy in Latin America. From this relationship, a set of guidelines arise that support decision making in the energy sector of the region. The ethical proposal for protection concerns energy issues regarding access to modern energy services to eliminate energy poverty and lack of access. Justice as fairness is related to the setting of progressive tariff schemes, the protection of critical natural resources, and the sustainable use of energy resources. The principle of responsibility concerns strategies of energy efficiency, strategies for moderation in energy consumption, and the reduction of poverty.
