Larmor rotation in galaxies

Abstract

Abstract The role of the gravitomagnetic field in the rotation of galaxies is clarified. Larmor’s theorem simplifies the analysis of different galactic equilibrium solutions. In particular, the self-consistent solution, which takes into account both the equivalent Larmor gravitomagnetic field and fluid convection, recovers previous results that reproduce galactic rotation curves without recourse to dark matter.
