To investigate the “negative difference effect” (NDE) in the anode hydrogen evolution process that is accompanied by pitting corrosion of aluminum, an electrochemical real-time data acquisition device was designed and used. The visual position and imaging of hydrogen evolution during the polarization process were obtained intuitively along with the collection of electrochemical data. The relationships and corresponding electrochemical reaction characteristics linking pitting and hydrogen evolution of aluminum and AA2024 alloy in the presence of Cl− were revealed.
