KLUB RUSKI W WARSZAWIE. PIERWSZE ĆWIERĆWIECZE DZIAŁALNOŚCI (1860–1885)
Abstract
In 1859, the increasing number of Russians in Warsaw prompted offi cers stationed there to undertake efforts to establish a club. Founded the following year, it was intended to be a place of rest, relaxation, entertainment, and socialising for Russian offi cers. The club attracted both Russian and Polish residents of Warsaw, however, and only became a purely Russian institution a few years later. For a time, it played a significant role in the political, social, and cultural life of Russians in Warsaw and more widely in the Kingdom of Poland.
