The German colonial revisionism, at the end of 1930s, proved to be a subtle challenge. Germany wanted to see the reactions of England and France. That is why, the nationalist-socialist regime behaved carefully, encouraging the unofficial manifestations (such as the ones of “The German Colonial League”, ruled by the old general von Epp). Unlike England, which proved to be understanding, France was extremely hostile to any kind of colonial retrocession.
