Background. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the effectiveness of Mexidol on the degree of development of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) by morphometric parameters of lung tissue. Matherials and Methods. The study was conducted on 30 rats of the Wistar line: I gr. – control, II gr. – with ARDS, modeled by in / b administration of 0.1 % solution of epinephrine at a dose of 15 mg / kg, III-with in / b administration of Mexidol at a dose of 400 mg/kg and further creation of ARDS. In all groups, visual lung assessment, morphohistological examination of lung tissue and morphometric analysis were performed in the "Olympus DP Soft" program with two-factor dispersion analysis. Results. In ARDS, there is diffuse damage to the alveoli, some of them in a dormant state. When Mexidol is corrected, there is a significant decrease in the parameter of interstitial edema, intraalveolar edema, fullness of microvessels, and an increase in the parameter of unchanged parenchyma compared to the group of rats without drug administration. Conclusions. Administration of Mexidol to rats with ARDS leads to a significant decrease in morphometric parameters characterizing pulmonary edema.
