Overview of transmission expansion planning in the market environment

Abstract

The reform of the electricity market has brought many new challenges to transmission expansion planning (TEP). This paper categorizes existing transmission planning literatures in the market environment, summarizes popular research issues arising from this field in recent years, analyzes model structures based on the objectives from the power transmission side and generators’ behavior, explores the practicality of models and methods in real power systems from the perspective of load and the scale of test systems, summarizes characteristics of the existing literature, analyzes deficiencies in current works, and provides some suggestions for future research.
