Russisch-Deutsche Zusammenarbeit in Erforschung und Erschließung Nordsibiriens seit den Tagen von Alexander von Humboldt

Abstract

Article in German, Abstracts in English and German.The scientific exploration of central and northern Siberia as well as the adjacent Arctic Ocean has been traditionally supported by German scientists, either by German nationals or by naturalized former Germans who had moved to Russia. The history and development of this exploration can be subdivided into four phases: pre-Humboldtian, Humboldtian, post-Humboldtian and modern times. The latest phase unfolded after perestroika opened up a new chapter of access to previously closed regions in northern Siberia and of intimate cooperation between Russian and German science organizations, with the support of the responsible federal ministries both in Russia as well as in Germany.
