Entre bobos anda el juego ranks among Rojas Zorrilla’s most frequently printed works. This abundance contrasts with the scarcity of attempts at a critical textual fixation: only Profeti (1998) attacked this task in any systematisation. However, in the preparation of a new critical edition there has been a revision of the different versions, especially the foundational prints: P1 (Primera parte de comedias, 1645) and D (Parte 57… de diferentes autores, Valencia, 1646). The results of this recent analysis emphasize the need to study each specific variant in order to restore the text as it was intended by the poet, since there are trivializations and corruptions in every text but a critical comparison allows us to restore some readings that are undoubtedly genuine and currently ignored by the critical tradition.
