Langage articulé par le chauffe-eau dans La Carte et le territoire : entre l’étrangeté et l’intimité

Abstract

La dizaine d’apparitions du chauffe-eau dans La Carte et le territoire ne semble pas anodine. En contextualisant cette machine sous la plume de Houellebecq, le présent article se propose d’interpréter les liens entre le chauffe-eau et le style de l’écriture houellebecquienne, le dérou­lement du récit et la mise en valeur des sujets dans ce roman. Ainsi, le chauffe-eau, susceptible d’être identifié à Houellebecq ou à Jed, accède-t-il au langage articulé. There is a great significance existing in the machine – water heater, which appears more than ten times in the novel La Carte et le territoire. This paper aims at exploring the connection between the water heater, Houellebecq’s writing style, the narrative process and the theme in the novel through contextualizing the water heater in the novel. The water heater, which stands for Houellebecq or Jed, has access to an articulate langage.
