Abstract

Old postcards constitute an important part of the iconography of theater buildings. Especially in reference to buildings that no longer exist or have been substantially rebuilt, such records are of inestimable value. The same is true about performance or spectacle scenes captured in the postcard pictures: we would have known nothing about many of them, as they have not been recorded in any other way. The items presented here have been selected from a collection of postcards showing Eastern Borderlands of Poland that cover theater-related themes as well. The selection encompasses both permanent venues of theater companies as well as theater halls where touring and amateur companies performed.
