Water Resources Endowment and Development in Nine Cities of Guangdong Province under Background of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area
Abstract
Water resources are basic strategic resources. It is of great significance to carry out research on urban water resources in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to promote the stable development of these areas. From the perspective of water resources development and utilization, this paper analyzes the natural endowment and utilization of urban water resources in the Greater Bay Area and analyzes the development potential of water resources. To solve the problems in the development and utilization of water resources, it puts forward relevant countermeasures and suggestions. The results are as follows. In terms of water resources endowment, the total amount of surface water, groundwater, and water resources in Zhaoqing, Huizhou, and Jiangmen is high, while that in Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, and Dongguan is low. Zhaoqing, Huizhou, and Jiangmen have higher per capita water resources, while Shenzhen has the lowest. In terms of water resources utilization, Guangzhou has the largest water consumption, while Zhuhai has the lowest. Concerning the water consumption structure, the Greater Bay Area has entered a post-industrial stage, with a significant increase in the proportion of the service industry. The analysis of water resources development potential shows that Shenzhen and Dongguan have low water resources development potential, while Huizhou, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing have great water resources development potential. It is necessary to adopt advanced technologies to improve water efficiency, like enhancing residents' water-saving awareness and cultivating water-saving habits, and to build a water-saving society. If conditions are permitted, transferring water from other watersheds can be considered as one of the means to ensure water supply safety.
