The purpose of the Green and Blue Network strategy (in French, Trame verte et bleue) is to build an ecological network to foster biodiversity. At the regional level it translates into regional plans for ecological consistency (in French, Schéma Régionaux de Cohérence Ecologique). This article is about the design and the implementation of the Green and Blue Network strategy in farming areas in the Rhônes-Alpes region. We show how this strategy has been subjected to different trials before being successfully deployed for mobilising farmers. This has led to changes in landscape design approaches. The ecological landscape, associating reservoirs of biodiversity and green and blue corridors, has gradually become a development landscape involving different modes of occupation. The challenge at the regional level is to limit urbanisation and the intensification of agriculture. Finally, with the deployment of the ecological consistency plan the landscape becomes a development landscape experienced by the inhabitants in their daily lives as a support for and product of economic and agricultural activities.
