Acute compartment syndrome after a lapidus-akin procedure: A case report
Abstract
Acute compartment syndrome is a limb threatening condition typically associated with traumatic injury; however, it can be associated with surgical procedures such as abdominal and pelvic surgeries as well as hip and knee arthroplasty. In this case report, we present a case of a 16-year-old male who experienced acute compartment syndrome of the foot and leg 5 days after undergoing a Lapidus-Akin procedure. Acute compartment syndrome is not currently documented to occur after elective forefoot surgery. It is our hope by presenting this case report we can add to the body of knowledge this never described complication after elective forefoot surgery.
