In an example of literary criticism in the humoristic anthology April from 1862 and the following reflection of the anthology itself, the study aims to analyze the Czech-speaking literary field since the restoration of constitutionality, its relations to the field of politics (the axis of arts – politics) and the role of literary criticism at the time before its transformation into an independent field. The anthology, forgotten by all, is perceived as an attempt to attack positions at the literary field occupied by Jan Neruda and his Máj fellows from a peripheral position of the humoristic literature, dominated by a parody form of Neruda's literary-critical journalism. Subsequently, Neruda's reaction demonstrates the techniques and characteristic features of the contemporary literary.
