This article is based on the follow-up of a group of landscape students from the École Nationale Supérieure de Paysage de Versailles on their field of study, for 5 days. In immersion with them, the researcher observed them confronting their field of study, in order to understand how they mobilize the sensitive, political and complex dimensions of the landscape. What does this observation reveal about the students’ field practices? How does the field transform their ways of learning and using the human sciences? How does this mise en abyme and the methodology it implies – the field of the students becoming a field of investigation for the researcher – question the research posture of the geographer and his own relationship to the field?
