ABSTRACT: Research on teacher education has been a prominent theme in both Brazil and Latin America. In this article we intend to present the Dossier that is part of this issue of the Teacher Training Magazine, as well as to highlight some aspects that sometimes approach, sometimes distance the countries object of these reflections. This study involved six countries, namely Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay and Chile. The choice was based as much on the diversity of the formation processes evidenced in each country as on the proximity with the invited researchers. Even with the advances that each country has signaled in relation to the training of its teachers, governments in Latin America will still need to invest in the training and professional enhancement of teachers, as an important and decisive step in improving the quality of education offered, as well as reducing social inequalities facing each regional context. KEY WORDS: Teacher Education, Initial Education, Latin America, Public Policy.
