The circular economy in Romania: a bibliometric study of innovation and sustainable practices
Abstract
This study provides a bibliometric analysis of the literature on circular economy in Romania, using data from the Web of Science database. The study covers the period from 1992 to 2023 and examines 741 articles from 253 different sources. The results show an annual growth rate of 15.86% in scientific production, highlighting a growing interest in sustainability, recycling, waste management, and renewable energy. The analysis also reveals an average of 12.52 citations per document and a total of 24,773 references, indicating the relevance of these studies in the academic community. Although the percentage of international collaborations is about 20%, partnerships with countries such as Italy, the USA, and Hungary demonstrate an expanding global interest in the circular economy in Romania. The study highlights the central role of Romanian academic institutions and researchers in promoting this field and provides valuable insights for the development of future research, with an emphasis on innovation and sustainability.
