A multi-loculated cystic meningioma simulating an arachnoid cyst
Abstract
Cystic meningiomas are rare tumours with varying subtypes. The authors present a unique case of a cystic meningioma consisting entirely of multi-loculated cystic cavities identical to a multi-septated arachnoid cyst. The characteristics, diagnosis and current literature are reviewed with regards to cystic meningiomas. Radiology and histopathology results are presented and discussed within our management plan. This case provides further evidence to the variability and difficulty in diagnosing cystic meningiomas and highlights the importance to physicians/neurosurgeons/neuroradiologists to include this rare tumour in their differentials if presented with an unusual similar radiological and clinical picture.
