The group of people who face untouchability and oppression as the Tamil community transforms into a hierarchical social structure after the Sangam period. Records of these people are recorded from the Sangam period to the contemporary literature. The way in which the oppressed people are treated by the upper castes is very cruel. The lives of such oppressed people can be found in the short stories of Dalit writers. In the short stories of Imayam, the Dalit people who are killed because of the cow's victory in the race appear to be ignorant. Those who think that a downtrodden person should not come beyond politics are being shot. The policeman, who seeks to leave the police force due to caste fanaticism, can be seen living on the margins of the caste-stigmatized masses in the society, without proper legal protection. Hence, the article probes to cater down the life of subalterns in the short stories of Nanmaran Kottai Kathai.
