Periferie participate. Cinque casi di riqualificazione urbana a Torino (Italia)
Abstract
Since half of the XIXth century to 1960, approximately, the city of Turin suffered a very intense degree of industrialization. The economic crisis of the end of the XXth century produced a strong decline in these areas, in order to face this situation (generalized all around Italy) many legal instruments were created – integrated programs aimed to get urban, environmental and building requalifications. These programs have been very important for the development of Turin, where, since 1997, 13 urban areas were requalified, with an approximately cost of 500 million euros. The article describes five urban projects executed in this town between 1995 and 2004 and remarks the importance of town people participation in these kind of events.
