The issues about the essence of the state and its form have not lost their relevance for a long time. Special attention should be paid to the study of one of the elements of the form of the state – administrative-territorial structure, especially of the new constituent entities that became part of Russia in 2022, as well as the reasons for such entry, historical and legal features of the formation of new territories as new administrative-territorial units, their integration into the Russian legalsystem. Purpose: to analyze the аdministrative-territorial structure of the new constituent entities of Russia and their integration into the Russian legal system by studying the form of the state structure of the Soviet and post-Soviet republics and its impact on the subsequent formation of territories. Methods: general philosophical, historical, systemic, legal, descriptive methods. Results: the research reveals the relationship between the formation and development of new regions on the basis of the post-Soviet space and, as a result, their successful integration into the Russian legal system at the present stage. On the one hand, the reunification of the former union territories in 2022 is a result of Ukraine’s aggressive policy towards the population. On the other hand, the possibility of rapid integration of the former union territories both in administrative-territorial and legal terms, in the author’s opinion, is due to the peculiarities of their historical development in the Soviet and post-Soviet period.
