The title Schiff base compound, C19H16N2O3, prepared by the reaction of 2-methoxy-1-naphthylaldehyde and 2-hydroxybenzohydrazide, crystallizes with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. Each molecule exists in a trans configuration with respect to the methylidene group. The naphthyl ring system make dihedral angles of 65.0 (2)° and 55.8 (2)° with the planes of the benzene rings. Intramolecular N—H...O and O—H...O hydrogen bonds help to stabilize the molecular conformations. In the crystal structure, molecules are linked into one-dimensional chains parallel to the c axis by intermolecular O—H...N and O—H...O hydrogen bonds.
