William Carlos Williams, who was a subtle and original connoisseur of visual arts, was a great admirer of Pieter Brueghel, the Elder. In his last collection of poems, he published ten ekphrases from this Flemish artist’s paintings. One of them is dedicated to The Parable of the Blind. Following his directions, the reader/viewer realizes what, in the poet’s opinion, is the generative symbol of this masterpiece.
