STRUCTURAL FEATURES OF COMPOSITE ADJECTIVES
Abstract
Complex units of word-formation system within the framework of cognitive linguistics are examined here. There are different scientific approaches to description and structural organization of complex adjectives. Onomasiological method should be used to define the connection between basic word- combination and derivatives. Complex adjectives are studied in a way suggesting by the theory of composite-building. We have described them as univerbalisation composites and quasi-composites. On the other hand, cognitive direction considers derivational units as framing type conceptual structures. The word-formation system is a result of complex units interaction, there have been mentioned derivational categories, derivational types and derivational nests. Derivational type is supposed to be a language category being used as a way of world cognition modelling. The derivational nests play organizing and system-generating roles as well. They are considered as derivatives combination with structural and semantic relations. This paper also analyses conceptual derivation as basic point of adjectives substantivation. All scientific methods described here have a general point in determining the correlations between basic word and derivatives.
