The framework conditions must be aligned to the requirements of the bioeconomy
Abstract
For reasons of sustainability, the industrial bioeconomy will not be able to integrate all of today's fossil-based economic sectors of energy and fuel production and chemistry. In particular, the very large fossil-based energy and fuel sector must be widely converted to carbon-free alternatives. Organic chemistry and part of the fuel sector remain dependent on carbon. In future, these sectors must be integrated into the circular value chains of the natural carbon cycle (biomass) and technical cycles of waste recycling and carbon capture and utilisation (CCU). However, the current economic policy framework conditions do not sufficiently support this change. Therefore, proposals for adapting the framework conditions are presented that can accelerate the transformation into a sustainable industrial bioeconomy.
