Requirements for activating the role of tourism institutions in the promotion of cultural tourism in Algeria: An exploratory study within a sample of tourism and travel agencies

This study aimed at exploring the main requirements to activate the role of tourism and travel agencies in promoting cultural tourism in Algeria, and at identifying the challenges and difficulties that face these agencies to do so, especially the issue of raising the tourism cultural awareness and heading toward travel agencies. To achieve these objectives, an exploratory study was conducted through a questionnaire containing a number of opened questions was sent via email and Facebook to a sample of tourism and travel agencies , and through phone interviews with managers of some of these agencies. We noted the almost all the opinions of these agencies go along with the strategy of the plan of tourism development (SDAT 2030) in terms the Algerian potential and the regions that can be exploited as part of the promotion of cultural tourism; however, these agencies didn't miss to mention that there remains many obstacles slowing down the promotion of cultural tourism in Algeria, in particular: the durability issue and cultural heritage preservation, the lack of tourism culture among the citizens, the lack of support and motivation by the ministry, as well as the administrative complexities to obtain a visa for foreigners which impedes their arrival periodically and regularly.
