The role of the Discalced Carmelite Monastery in Glebokie in the history of the town and it’s region The article presents the important role played by the convent of the Discalced Carmelite not only in the history of the town Glebokie, but also in the north-eastern part of Wileńszczyzna (Vilnius region). Author focuses on a few main topics: the outstanding contribution and generosity of the founder of the monastery – Joseph Korsak; influence on region’s life and on activities of the priors such as: Father Josaphat from Our Lady of Mount Caramel Tyszkiewicz, Father Nicholas of St. Ambrose Alberta Budny, Father Wojciech of St. Anna Pczycki, Fr Pankracy of St. Michael Kruszynski, Fr Bartholomew of Bl. Wladyslaw Gielniów Brydycki. What is more, the visits of powerful politics as Polish King John II Casimir, Paul Sapieha, French Emperor Napoleon I are shown as the examples of convent’s extraordinary role in the epoch. Last but not least, also the convent’s great impact on the struggle for independence of the Polish State and it’s leading role in the field of spreading education in whole area are one of the most important parts of the article. The work is based on a considerable amount of archival material from various archives: Polish, Lithuanian, Belarusian, Russian.
