Estimates for major funding applications for earthquake investigation and research by the Japanese government in 2023

According to the Japan Earthquake Disaster Prevention Measures Act, the Headquarters for Earthquake Research Promotion of Japan summarized, adjusted and published the proposed estimates for major funding applications for earthquake investigation and research by the relevant Japanese government administrative at the end of August 2022. In 2023, the government’s estimated total budget for earthquake research is 10 billion yen, up 56% from 6.4 billion yen in 2022. These funds are mainly allocated to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, which do not include the operating and maintenance expenses of Japanese public administrative legal persons, etc.
