Influence of staff performance on public university operations: Examining motivation and retention factors
Abstract
This mixed-methods study examined the relationship between staff performance, retention, and motivation in a university setting, focusing on the impact of organizational culture. 350 employees from 17 departments participated, using descriptive statistics, correlations, and regression analysis. Thematic analysis of qualitative data was employed to understand staff members' perceptions of motivation, retention, and performance. The study found a slight but statistically meaningful association between staff performance and retention and motivational factors. While raising retention and motivational variables can improve staff performance, there is no significant link between retention and motivational components. The study also highlighted the importance of institutional culture in shaping employee attitudes and impacting motivation and retention. Institutions must support a positive workplace culture and recognize the significance of motivation and retention measures.
