Pudeurs et manipulations médicales du cadavre (France, XIXe siècle)
Abstract
Embalming, death checking and dissections are some examples of medical handlings of corpses in 19th-century France, which involve issues of decency. This work tries to link these problems with the evolution of funeral sensibilities, and not only with the medical practices on living bodies. It points out the problem of the adequacy between manipulations and the funeral process, as well as the social differences in the corpse treatment.
