Background. This study describes the 3D ultrasound examination of the brain in the newborn and infant which demonstrated some advantages when compared to the 2D examination.Conclusions. The 3D ultrasound examination of the brain can actually reduce the examination time in newborn and infants when compared to the 2D examination. The possibility to evaluate any part of the brain from the acquired threedimensional volume at the same time in three different orthogonal planes contributes to a higher accuracy and reliability of the diagnosis.
