La reconnaissance de la qualification dans le travail ouvrier : l’expérience est-elle une compétence ?
Abstract
This paper is based upon fieldwork conducted in four steel factories. All four factories belong to a French firm in which blue collar workers’ classification systems are currently under negotiation. The lack of recognition of experience for senior skilled workers is analysed, as this situation leads to a conflict between senior and junior skilled workers on how to define the appropriate qualification criteria. The new competence-based classification systems under negotiation seem to go along the same lines. Skilled workers are made vulnerable by these classification systems, as individual requirements prevail.
