PROJECT OF WEIGHT TRAINING IN A FEDERAL INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION
Abstract
Introduction: The practice of physical exercise has been shown effective in combating the evils caused by sedentary behavior that affects, among other groups, teachers and students. Furthermore, the range of activities such as weight training in schools for members of the internal school community can have a number of other benefits that go far beyond the improvement of biological order. Objectives: to present an extension project in bodybuilding developed for internal school community in an educational institution, reporting its organizational structure, mode of operation and the benefits promoted by the project. Methodology: The project was developed by physical education teachers aided by scholarship students. The activities were carried out in the room of weight training at the Federal Institute of Southeast of the Minas Gerais Campus Rio Pomba and offered to all students and servers of the campus. Worked during the entire period of regular classes with hours of operation in shifts of morning, afternoon and night. The prescription includes strength training / muscular endurance, flexibility and aerobic endurance and practitioners had often two to four workouts per week. Results: The frequency in the project showed a seasonal variation in the number of participants and in a survey conducted in October 2013 was detected the presence of 74 participants, with a majority of males (65.9%) and no presence of servers of the campus. In a preliminary evaluation to participation in the project, the participants were evaluated regarding the goals with the practice of weight training. Among the options presented, the goals that have obtained higher frequency were Aesthetic, Physical Fitness and Slimming. It was observed subjectively improvements in components of physical fitness and socialization and integration between project participants. Conclusion: Although some adjustments are necessary for the better functioning of the project, the overall results showed that it has important contributions to the school community. Although not measured, were observed improvements in overall physical fitness and increase the level of physical activity, which brings with it various health benefits.
