Cerebral Complication of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis: about a case
Abstract
Leishmaniasis (L) is a cutaneous, mucocutaneous, or visceral disease caused by intracellular Leishmania protozoan parasites that are transmitted by the bite of female sand flies. Algeria is located in an endemic area (mediterranean pond), in which, cutaneous form is the most frequent and caused by Leishmania major. Neurological manifestations are rare. We describe the case of a child who presented encephalitis two years after frontal cutaneous leishmaniasis.
