Presentisms and Testimonial Reenactments of the Rwandan Genocide. Another Gender/Genre of Memoir?
Abstract
The first part of this article traces the dynamics of the phenomenon of memory in the configuration of global landscapes (mnemoscapes), highlighting its presentism and recognising it as post-memory. These considerations motivate an anthropological-critical look at unprecedented actors and terrains, such as the criminal memory of genocidal women in Rwanda. This is addressed in the second part, in the confrontation with levels of justice and the contradictions of the “pacifying” appeal to socially accepted gender roles, in open contrast to the heinousness of the violence perpetrated.
