EMPIRES AND FANTASY
Abstract
Aim. To consider some of the many examples of the construction of motivating images of an ideal empire, turned in some cases to the past, in others - to the future, and their connection with motivating myths and their reinterpretation in the fantasy genre.Methodology. The corpus of texts is analyzed and the historical and political science experience on the research topic is summarized, the methods of political and philosophical analysis, hermeneutics and dialectical logic were used.Results. The relationship between the stages of the dying and flourishing of the empire and the appeal to the images of the past and future in science fiction and fantasy as forms of understanding myths and legends based on modern political experience is revealed.Research implications. The study deepens the understanding of the development patterns of large multi-ethnic and multi-confessional formations also referred to by the term “empire”. The results of the study can be used in the analysis of the development of modern state entities and in training courses in political science, philosophy and history.
