Preliminary notes for a re-examination of the history of palethnology in Romagna. The formative period (1867-1891)
Abstract
The strong cultural turmoil, typified the emergence oh prehistoric archaeology in Italy in the second half of XIX century, involved slightly the eastern province of Romagna. Luigi and Carlo Tonini, Antonio Santarelli, Dom Francesco Renzi were the prominent figures during this first study season. On account of their purely literary education, theymatured own palaeoethnological experience on the field, thanks to the numerous accidental finds and to the methodical excavation of wider sites. Essential relevance for the development of research on prehistoric antiquities in Romagna assumed the repeated scientific exchanges with the most important Bolognese archaeologists (G. Scarabelli, G. Gozzadini, E. Brizio), which started primarily on the occasion of Bologna Congress in 1871.
