The article deals with the image of power in Spain in the beginning of Restoration (1876-1923), in the Russian travel literature, mainly by representative authors of the liberal-democratic intelligentsia who visited Spain in 1870-1880. The essays, travel notes and diaries by V. I. Nemiróvich-Danchenco, I. Pavlovsky, K. Skalkovsky, S. Podolinsky, and A. Efron were very popular in Russian public opinion. The publication of these books and chronicles indicate that the romantic image of Spain in Russia was changing, since the publication of the book Letters on Spain, by V. P. Botkin (1847), to a new realistic and pragmatic image of Spain from Russia.
