The use of adaptive design methods in clinical research has become popular due to its flexibility. Such methods are very useful in early clinical development. Urn designs and covariate-adaptive designs are specific adaptive designs aimed at balancing the treatment groups in a clinical trial. In this article, we provide a comprehensive review of adaptive design methods in clinical research and development.
