Objective: To describe the trend of Brazilian nursing production in theses and dissertations addressing families living with people with intestinal stomies. Method: Documentary research conducted in May 2017 in the Catalog of Thesis and Dissertations of the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Level Personnel. The search for online documents was performed by the term "family" and later by the respective synonyms: "stommy OR ostomy OR stoma OR ostoma". The corpus consists of nine documents. Results: Of the documents analyzed, five were dissertations and four were theses. Nursing care from the perspective of families and people with intestinal stomies, the influence of culture on the family cohabitation system, the social support network of the family, the context of the family caregiver, the relationship of the person with intestinal stomies and the quality of life of people with intestinal stomies and their families was the goal of a research each. Educational technologies as a support for the education of families of people with colostomy were contemplated in two studies. Conclusion: The gaps found in the knowledge produced involve the development of studies that address the scientific and practical knowledge of nursing care in the person with intestinal stomies and their relatives.
