Abstract

Le Fiamme di Giovan Battista Giraldi Cinthio non sono un libro di rime costruito a freddo e in un breve arco di tempo, ma un canzoniere lucido e meditato che prende forma lentamente nell’orma del petrarchismo bembiano e arriva tardi alle stampe a metà Cinquecento. Il saggio prende in considerazione le testimonianze manoscritte e a stampa dell’esercizio lirico del Giraldi per delineare la storia del testo delle Fiamme come premessa a un’edizione critica e commentata. ------ First findings as for the «Fiamme» edition. The Giovan Battista Giraldi Cinthio’s Fiamme is not an extemporary book of poetry constructed in a short time, but a lucid and thoughtful “canzoniere” (organic collection of poetry) that slowly takes shape in the footsteps of Bembian Petrarchism and arrives late at print in the mid-16th century. The essay considers manuscripts and printed sources of Giraldi’s lyric writing to outline the history of the text of the Fiamme as a premise for a critical and annotated edition.
