The paper presents, from bibliographic research, the development of epistemology, it situates and historically contextualizes some theoretical and methodological foundations for the construction of knowledge, highlighting the method and its most notable divergences. It aims to discuss the importance of epistemology in education, taking into account the production of knowledge for the purpose of transforming human beings and their implications for nature and society. Finally, it points out how epistemological studies can collaborate in the understanding and analysis of education policies.
