New Findings of Cast Iron in the Golden Horde Monuments of the Donetsk Region

Abstract

The paper presents general information about the cast iron products of the Golden Horde period discovered at the monuments of Donetsk region. Details of the sites, where the cast iron findings have been discovered, are provided. These settlements are located both in the middle course of the Seversky Donets and on the Donetsk Ridge and the territory of the Northern Azov Region. Assumptions are made about the places of cast iron production in this area. Presently, traces of iron foundry production have been identified near the village of Mayaki, Slavyansky District (Tsarino settlement) on the Seversky Donets and on the Azov coast near Obryv village, Novoazovsky District of Donetsk Oblast. A suggestion is made about the possible use of local hard coal deposits for smelting cast iron products.
