The problem of instrumentalization of value of security in the contemporary politics

Abstract

Objectives Indication of the sources of the growing popularity of security issues in the realities of contemporary politics. The distinction between security and the sense of security as policy goals. Explanation of the sources of the phenomenon of instrumentalization of security values. Material and methods Systemic analysis of the field of politics, in which it is perceived as a reality constituting a system of interconnected elements. The explanation here is the nature of man and the nature of democracy and security as a political goal. The conducted analyzes are confirmed by the observation of political phenomena and processes. Results The reason for the growing popularity of security issues in the field of politics is the growing number of threats and the instrumental use of security values to achieve other goals. It results from the fact that in contemporary political life, the importance of rationality and rational argumentation is decreasing, and the importance of emotions is increasing. The value of security, as a value that engages emotions, is used instrumentally to transfer the emotions associated with it to other goals and thus convince people to implement them. Conclusions The instrumental use of security values leads to a situation in which the emotions evoked prevent an objective view of reality and cause actions to be taken against security, which themselves become a source of new threats. In this situation, it is necessary to limit the role of emotions in political life because it determines the objective recognition of real problems and, consequently, their effective solution - also in the broadly understood field of security.
