Otolaryngology Case Reports (Jun 2020)
A rare case of giant cell tumor of the temporal bone
Abstract
A 36-year-old female with a history of migraines presented with pressure and fullness in her right ear for the past several months. She also reported muffled hearing that was temporarily relieved by “popping” her ears. When initial management did not alleviate symptoms, a CT scan was ordered and revealed an erosion of the temporal bone. The mass extended to the middle cranial fossa and middle ear space, abutting the head of the malleus. After excision, diagnosis was confirmed as a giant cell tumor. Post-operatively, the patient reports resolution of her recurrent migraines and return to normal hearing levels.
