FeAlCr is an economical catalyst for oxygen evolution in acid
Abstract
Economical catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) under acidic conditions to replace the expensive IrO2 gold standard are highly desirable. In this work, we demonstrate the use of an inexpensive FeAlCr alloy for acidic OER. 670 times cheaper than IrO2, the FeAlCr catalyst was able to generate a current density of 10 mA/cm2 at an overpotential of 652 mV with a faradaic efficiency of ∼70%. The material sustained the current density for 100 h in pH 1.3.
