SVPWM (space vector pulse width modulation) is difficult to be applied to MMC (modular multilevel converter) control, the paper proposes an SVPWM applicable to arbitrary MMC. The control method regards MMC as N diode-clamped three-level converters in series, and based on equivalent transformation of automatic control principle and carrier phase shifting technology, it can achieve SVPWM of arbitrary MMCs using single three-level SVPWM generation module. Finally, the model of a five-level SVG (static var generator) based on MMC topology is established in the simulation software. The simulation results show that the method is simple and universal, and can achieve SVPWM of arbitrary MMCs.
